3 Ways To Create A Calming Space At Home

The homes we surround ourselves in are hugely important and impactful on our lives. The link between interior design & inner wellness are surprisingly closely linked. For example, something as simple having an all white office, or a room that experiences low levels of light can have a huge impact on our mental health. The former because they can be uninspiring & dull & the latter because spaces with a lack of light can lead to a depressed mood, being unproductive and even depressed. So in light of this, it’s important we focus our efforts into designing spaces that make us happy, healthy & calm. In this post, we’ll be sharing with you some top tips on how to create a more calming space at home. We know that having ways to counteract the hectic stresses of day-to-day life is extremely important.

Top Tip: Introduce Natural Materials

To create a calming space, try introducing natural materials, such as wood, rattan / jute, ceramic, stone etc. The sight of these types of earthy materials subliminally connects us with nature and research shows it has a calming effect upon the brain. Try our Bali Collection  for an on-trend series of furniture by Amelia & Joseph which is sure to introduce calming properties into any space.

Top Tip: Use A Soft Colour Pallette

To further enhance your calm interior, use colours which are subtle, calming & unobtrusive. Think muted hues, pastels, neutrals. We particularly love creams, navies, olive greens, ochres & light greys. Put this into practice with your art work too as these images will have a strong impact on your psyche as you enter a space.

Top Tip : Clear The Clutter

A tidy house is a tidy mind, as the saying goes. Take a tip or two from de-cluttering pro Marie Kondo and clear out as much as you can of possessions you no longer need (donate to charity or hand down to friends & family) and tidy away unsightly clutter in clever storage solutions. We have a great selection of relaxation inducing storage pieces for you to view, which you can check out here.
