How to Refresh Your Home for the New Year
Finally! It’s 2021 and after a tough year, we’re all looking forward to a fresh start. It seems that we will all be spending some extra time at home this year, so why not start as we mean to go on and make our space as comfortable and homely as possible? Let us show you how to easily refresh your home and get ready for the New Year ahead…
Store Away Christmas Decorations
Give yourself a fresh start to the year by removing any visual reminders of last year, such as the Christmas decorations. Take down that tinsel, box up those baubles and sweep up the pine needles scattered on the carpet. The fresh look (and extra space) will make your home feel instantly ‘lighter’ and ready to tackle 2021.
Another way to make your home feel ‘lighter’ is by having a de-clutter! Whether it be clearing out that overflowing storage space, or tackling the messy kitchen cupboards, a little clear out will leave you feeling more prepared for the year ahead. Bag up old clothes for the charity shop, take any unwanted food to the food bank and take a trip to the local recycling centre with any items you no longer need. I guarantee you’ll feel better for it!
Top Tip: Try to be ruthless when it comes to getting rid of unwanted items. If you didnt use it for the whole of 2020, do you really need to keep it?
Ok, so it may not be ‘spring’ yet, but it’s not too early to get the rubber gloves out and get scrubbing! If we’re to be spending more time at home in the coming months, we need to make sure it looks it’s best. Grab the hoover and furniture polish and start working on the areas you neglected in 2020. It’s amazing how some dusted shelves and sparkling windows can boost your mood and make you feel more in control.
Shop Your Home
Finally, why not shift around some accessories and ‘shop your home’?This is where you hunt around your own home for vases, plants, accessories, ornaments, textiles, lamps and trinkets that are not being used to their full potential and move them to somewhere you’ll appreciate them. Perhaps you fancy a change with the sofa cushions, or want to ‘shake up’ your dining room with some different accessories? It could be the switch up you need to make your home feel brand new again, without spending a penny!
We hope we have inspired you to have a little clean up and experiment with the items in your home. We must never underestimate how much our surroundings can affect our mood, and so it’s important that our home is how we want it to be. A little spruce up could be the fresh start you need to kickstart your new year. Here’s to a happy and healthy 2021!
